Traditionally, Netflix releases a lot of content at the end of the month before new stocks begin the following month. At the end of 2022, however, a very special truck full of films will disappear from the streaming platform. These include several masterpieces from directorial legends and critically acclaimed cult classics – which we would like to recommend to you today.
If you have not seen the films below and/or if they are still on your watch list, it is best to watch them until December 31 – because that’s the only time they’ll be available on Netflix.
These movies are only available until December 31. on Netflix
“The convicts“: Frank Darabont’s legendary Stephen King movie about two inmates (Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman) who become friends behind bars has been considered the “greatest movie of all time” for years – at least when it comes to the all-time rankings goes. We give it “only” 4.5 out of 5 stars, but we still give it a clear recommendation.
“commencement“: Speaking of -Best list: also includes Christopher Nolan’s dream thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio – ranked 14th and ahead of movies like “Matrix”, “Star Wars” or “Psycho”! We give it full marks for the “surreal masterpiece” and the “virtuoso symbiosis of art and commerce”. The celluloid maze is an absolutely exceptional blockbuster that has lost none of its fascination even after more than a decade – and draws you in every time.
“Departed – Among enemies“: When master director Martin Scorsese dives into the world of crooks and gangsters, it’s always worth it. However, “Departed” is not only a piece of criminal cinema with a very strong story and an excellent supporting cast, but also one of the best remakes of all time. The original (“Infernal Affairs”) is an hour shorter and therefore different, but at least as good!
“inglorious bastards“: Of course, such an illustrious group of filmmakers would be nothing without Quentin Tarantino – whose WWII adventure “Inglourious Basterds” also features a stellar cast (from Christoph Waltz to Brad Pitt to Mélanie Laurent), as well as witty dialogue and a rewrite of the story that is just as exciting as entertaining scores. The FILMSTARTS review gave it “only” 4 stars, but for the author of this article, the Nazi Hunt, which is full of movie history cross-references, is one of the cult director’s really, really big highlights.
And for those who already know Quentin Tarantino’s films through and through and want to kill time with fresh supplies instead of enjoying one of his pearls for the umpteenth time, we also have a tip:
Fresh Netflix addition in January 2023
In the new year you can of course expect a lot of new (and other old) content on Netflix: For example, at the beginning of the year “Kaleidoskop” (from January 1) will be a very special new series, the correct order of the episodes you have to find out yourself.
Also coming later this month is the brand new serial killer hunt The Memorable Case of Mr Poe starring Christian Bale (January 6), season two Vikings: Valhalla (January 12), Christopher Nolan’s mindfuck masterpiece “Tenet” (January 17) and the ” That ’70s Show” revival “That ’90s Show” (January 19).
