You can watch these 15 highlights from films and series in January

The new year offers a wide variety of new films and series. Be it “Star Wars”, true crime, comedy or drama – there is something for everyone. Netflix brings a new season of “Vikings: Valhalla”, Disney a music documentary and for the gamers among you, the game adaptation “The Last of Us” runs on Sky.

The second season of “Vikings: Valhalla” begins shortly after the fall of Kattegat, an event that will forever change the fate of Freydis, Leif and Harald. They are now refugees in Scandinavia and have to find their way through different roads in a world unknown to them.

The new episodes will be available from January 12.

Christian Bale plays a detective in 1830 who has to solve a murder case at the military academy. His investigation is hampered by the cadets’ code of silence, so he hires one of them to help him. The young man hates his daily life in the army – he prefers poetry. His name is Edgar Allan Poe.

The film will be available from January 6.

Leia, the daughter of Eric and Donna, visits her grandparents Red and Kitty in Point Place in 1995. She quickly makes new friends there and spends her time in Formans’ basement, just like her parents did 20 years earlier.

The spin-off of “The Wild Seventies” kicks off January 19.

In this Austrian-German series, her husband’s car accident turns Blum’s life upside down. When she learns that her husband’s death was not an accident but murder, she swears revenge. But she becomes entangled in a conspiracy and turns from hunted to hunted.

The thriller will be available on Netflix from January 5.

A gang of master thieves plans their biggest coup yet. You want to outsmart the world’s best security team and then crack an indestructible vault. The story is told over a period of 25 years and follows non-linear timelines. In other words, the viewers themselves decide in which order they watch the episodes. The perspective on the story and the characters changes every time.

The series starts on January 1.

The animated series The Bad Batch follows five clones of Unit 99. Unlike other clones, they have special abilities that make them unique. The story of the second season is not yet known. However, Omega and AZI-3 will be back.

The streaming starts on January 4.

This documentary is about the famous music studio on Abbey Road in London. The breadth and diversity of Abbey Road Studios is showcased through interviews and archive recordings. From classical to hip-hop to film music, the walls of the studio have seen it all.

“If These Walls Could Sing” will run from January 6.

“Welcome to Chippendales” is based on the real life of Somen Banerjee, the founder of the world’s largest stripping empire. He didn’t let anything or anyone stop him.

The true crime series will run from January 11.

Based on the video game of the same name, “The Last of Us” is set twenty years after modern civilization was destroyed. Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) is hired to smuggle a girl out of a quarantine zone. An undertaking that turns into a relentless journey across the United States.

The series will be available on Sky Show from 16 January.

This new version of Anne Rice’s novel of the same name follows the story of vampire Louis de Pointe. He tells a journalist about the dangers of immortality, love and blood. As a black man, Louis’ life in early 1800s New Orleans was not easy. So the offer to be part of the vampire community sounds irresistible.

Streaming will begin on January 6, 2023.

After saving their land of Exandria from evil, the seven-member Vox Machina team must save the world again. This time for a group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave. The animated series is based on the web series of the twitch group Critical Role, which plays the role-playing game «Dungeons & Dragons».

The new season will be available on Amazon Prime Video from January 20. Three new episodes appear every week.

In “Shrinking,” Jason Segel plays a therapist who begins to break the rules and tell his patients exactly what’s on their mind. He ignores his education and his ethics. His new openness not only changes the lives of his patients, but also his own.

The comedy series can be seen from January 27.

Tom Hanks plays an embittered man named Otto. He is unkind to everything and everyone. But when a new family moves into the neighborhood, his life changes abruptly and an unusual friendship develops. The film is based on the Swedish bestseller «A Man Called Ove» by Fredrik Backman.

Cinema release: January 26.

Journalist Rahimi uncovers a serial killer targeting sex workers in this true-life crime film. The so-called “Spider Killer” thinks he is on a divine mission to “cleanse” the holy city. As Rahimi gets closer to the killer, the townspeople seem to be celebrating rather than condemning the acts of violence.

The film can be seen in cinemas from January 12.
