That’s the problem with the “evil” characters in the fantasy megahit “Game Of Thrones” – you often even like them in a bit of a twisted way, like Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). But the royal bastard (excuse the expression) Joffrey Baratheon probably doesn’t like anyone, even though he’s still exciting as a character, of course. Should Joffrey be cast Jack Gleeson but in real life being bothered by playing such a terrible character on the hit series?
At a “Game Of Thrones” and “House Of The Dragon” fan convention in Los Angeles, reported by Entertainment Weekly, among others, Jack Gleeson shared his experience with fans – and they were always positive! He even has the impression that people are often very nice to him because everyone believes that otherwise the actor would be attacked so often for his villain role.

It is rumored that he suffers from a dislike for Joffrey and is insulted or attacked in the street for his role. But that’s not the case, he hasn’t actually had a single bad experience in this regard, and Gleeson joked during the question-and-answer session: so there’s still the possibility of giving him his first negative encounter with fans if someone want to hit. But since a lot of people are “extra nice” to him now, maybe he should keep the rumor alive, the actor joked.
There has Dean Charles Chapmanwho plays Joffrey’s brother Tommen Baratheon has had worse experiences. In a Variety interview, he spoke about the fact that he has already received animosity for his role in “Game Of Thrones”. “I really hate you, I want to punch you in the face,” a “fan” is said to have thrown at him during an encounter.
Nice, but also pushy fans
While none of his fans mistreated him, Jack Gleeson’s celebrity has also suffered at GoT weddings — he couldn’t just hang out in public with his friends without being recognized, approached, and photographed. While filming Game Of Thrones in Dublin, he soon discovered the downside of fame he had longed for:
“Every time I went to a pub, all my friends had to become photographers, because people just gave them their phones and then it was night. [für meine Freunde] ruined.” But even such encounters with fans were always “definitely sweet and nice”.
Jack Gleeson has no opinion on the “GoT” finale…
Of course, during the fan convention’s Q&A session, Gleeson was also asked what he thought of “GoT” in general and the series’ controversial ending in particular. The answer may surprise some: Jack Gleeson has never seen Game Of Thrones. At first he did not watch the series because he did not want to see himself on screen. Over time, however, he just developed the feeling that it was generally better to leave it alone.
While Game Of Thrones is over, the prequel House Of The Dragon continues. This is how season 2 of the Targaryen series continues:
