Apparently the price monitor is not allowed to publish the report – under pressure from Migros

A controversy has erupted over whether and why the price watchdog was prevented from publishing a report on allegedly high prices of organic produce. According to “insiders”, Migros is behind it. “Due to legal clarifications,” the corresponding page in Wednesday’s price monitor newsletter remained blank.

He regrets that, said price monitor Stefan Meierhans on Friday evening in the program ’10vor10′ on Swiss-German television SRF. However, for legal reasons, he cannot comment further on this at the moment. According to “insiders”, Migros put pressure on the price monitor, it was said on Friday evening at “10 vor10”.

The price monitor report contains “probably highly explosive information that should not be made public,” Sara Stalder, director of the Consumer Protection Foundation (SKS), told “10vor10”.

Stefan Flückiger, general director of the Swiss Animal Protection (STS), suspects “power struggles in the background”; someone wants to avoid transparency, he said – also to “10 vor10”.

The Keystone-SDA news agency initially had no requested statement from the price monitor or from Migros. (saw/sda)
