It goes without saying that “Avatar: The Way Of Water” is currently on everyone’s lips. After all, fans of the first part have waited 13 years to finally be able to dive into the wonderful world of Pandora again. It remains to be seen whether James Cameron will achieve the success needed to further expand the series with “Avatar 2”. But what if the groundbreakingly staged fantasy adventure ultimately failed to perform as all those responsible had hoped?
With Avatar 3 already in the works and James Cameron only two years into post-production (Part 3 hits theaters late December 2024), we’re going to be hanging out with the Na’vi for a while on the cinema screen. Should the Pandora adventures end after that and “Avatar 4-5” (or 6+7) doesn’t appear after all, James Cameron could turn to another franchise where he once left his iconic mark.
This is the series “Terminator”. Both “Terminator” and “Terminator 2 – Judgment Day” are among the absolute pinnacles of the action and sci-fi genres, and as timeless classics have the quality to watch over and over again. The same cannot be said for sure about “Terminator 3 – Rise of the Machines”, “Terminator Salvation”, “Terminator: Genisys” and “Terminator: Dark Fate”. Not least because Cameron no longer took the director’s chair himself. But could that change in the future?
Is There Another James Cameron ‘Terminator’ Movie?
in the podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, James Cameron recently guest starred. The conversation was – less surprisingly – about “Avatar” and its ecological aspects. The quartet then turned to the topic of artificial intelligence and how it can be used in filmmaking.
“Well, the ‘Avatar’ movies are about the environment, not artificial intelligence. If I were to make another ‘Terminator’ movie and try to revive the franchise, which is currently being talked about but not decided yet, my focus would be much more on the AI side and not depicting them as evil robots. “
While that’s all James Cameron has to say about any other Terminator movie, it’s still very interesting that there seems to be some discussion right now about bringing the franchise back – and possibly even under the direction of James Cameron. But it should be made clear here that right now it’s very, very unlikely that Cameron will do another “Terminator.” Because for that, “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” would have to make a major crash landing at the box office (or many years would pass).
However, for fans of the first “Terminator” films, it would be clear that the series would find its way back to its former glory if James Cameron himself took the lead. As I said, no one should hope too much for that right now.
Instead, you currently have the opportunity to be blown out of the IMAX auditorium by the grandiose audiovisuals of an “Avatar 2”. Whether the fantasy adventure is convincing too, you can find out in the new big screen love song, in which moderator Sebastian, Pascal and our guest David Hain spoke at length about the movie:
