You can now watch what is probably by far the most popular fantasy series of 2022 without a streaming subscription

Two multi-million dollar productions brought us the ultimate fantasy showdown of the year in 2022. For a change, however, this year there were no XXL cinema blockbusters from Hollywood, but two new series, which proved how much money is now in streaming productions: With production costs of no less than a billion (!) Dollars for the first season put “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” in terms of production effort, everything that had gone before it in the shadows. However, “House Of The Dragon” proved that more isn’t always more.

The “Game of Thrones” prequel cost “only” one-fifth of that (still an impressive $200 million), but generated significantly more enthusiasm from both the trade press and the public: this is evidenced by two Golden Globe nominations – including the best drama series – and a place in the -List of the best series of all time. Originally released exclusively on Sky and WOW, the digital release finally followed last November. Just in time for Christmas, the first season of “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon” is now available in several home theater editions:

» “House Of The Dragon” Season 1: DVD* / Blu ray* / 4K Blu ray* / 4K Blu-ray (Steelbook)*

True to tradition, Warner Bros. the first season of the celebrated “Game Of Thrones” spin-off – after the individual seasons of the main series already appeared in similar versions – a limited collector’s edition in 4K Steelbook. Alternatively, the set, which includes all ten episodes from the first season, is of course also available as a standard version on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray – with the two Ultra HD editions coming with an exclusive cover art.

If you want to take the opportunity to immediately put the original series on the shelf, you have long been able to get it as a complete box in various variants. The set with all eight seasons is available from just under 100 euros:

“House Of The Dragon”: One of the highlights of the series of the year

The (first) “Game Of Thrones” offshoot is one of eight new formats in 2022, which – at least from December 21, 2022, 6 p.m. – is in the list of the best series in TV history on IMDbhave done. Well, with rank 228, the fantasy spectacle is in danger of being thrown out again sooner or later. The immense popularity of prehistory surrounding the house of Targaryen is also evident elsewhere:

Unlike other brand new series of jewels such as “Severance” from Apple TV+ or the format “The Offer” about the origins of the mafia classic “The Godfather”, which has not yet been released in this country, “House Of The Dragon” really looked very many people. Four months after its launch, the series already has more than 276,000 votes – and the trend continues. Especially now, with the official launch of the home cinema.

No wonder season 2 was confirmed long ago. MOVIE STARTS video editor and “Game Of Thrones” aficionado Sebastian has already thought about the sequel in the next video – but it’s still a long time coming…

This is what House Of The Dragon is about: Set 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen claims the throne of Westeros for herself, the prequel tells the story of her ancestors ruling the land with their mighty dragons. That means: the same world we already know from “Game Of Thrones”, in which many new faces jump around – for example from Paddy Considine (“Peaky Blinders”), Emma D’Arcy (“Truth Seekers”), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”), Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) and “Dr. Who” actor Matt Smith.
