James Gunn goes on the offensive. The director of “Guardians Of The Galaxy”, who will lead the future of the DC universe with producer Peter Safran, responds to the numerous rumors about the future of DC with a first concrete announcement. In a Twitter post promising “exciting information” about their planned projects for early 2023, he already gives very specific information about Superman:
Then among the new projects is a “Superman” movie. In doing so, “our story will focus on the early part of Superman’s life, which is why the character won’t materialize Henry Cavill has been played”, like Gunn.
So Henry Cavill is out as Superman – just a few weeks after his brief comeback in Black Adam and the announcement that Man Of Steel 2 would be in development.
Among those on the slate is Superman. In the early stages, our story focuses on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character isn’t played by Henry Cavill.

According to consistent information from Hollywood industry magazines James Gunn will write the screenplay for this new Superman movie. He also keeps the option open to direct. But that depends on whether his time as DC boss allows it and what other DC project might need him more urgently.
James Gunn further reveals that he and Peter Safran “just had a great meeting with Henry [Cavill] had” as we discussed several “exciting opportunities to work together in the future”, but don’t get your hopes up for another “Superman” comeback at some point.
But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about some exciting opportunities to work together in the future.

Henry Cavill says goodbye to Superman
Henry Cavill’s parting words, which the actor spoke on Instagram, are also clear. There the actor makes it clear that unfortunately he will not return as Superman. It’s hard for him to do that, but that’s life.

Cavill makes it clear once again that he and his Superman just didn’t fit into Gunn and Safran’s plans for their new DCU. He wishes them both and everyone involved in this new universe the best of luck in their endeavours.
Another DC role for Henry Cavill?
But what about Gunn’s teased “exciting future collaboration opportunities” if not Superman? According to information from Everyone involved is determined to find another role in the DC Comics universe for Henry Cavill to play.
So speculation can now begin as to which DC role Cavill would still fit into. Another hero character? Or maybe a bad guy for a change? Maybe even an opponent for his young Superman successor to face?
Other roles for the ancient Snyderverse warriors?
Other roles may appear to be in store for several past stars behind the DC heroes of the so-called Snyderverse. While there are only unconfirmed rumors that Jason Momoa’s days as Aquaman are numbered and that he could instead embody DC anti-hero Lobo, Gunn has now also spoken out about continuing to work with “Batman” star Ben Affleck.
He sees him more behind the camera at DC in the future. He just met Ben Affleck yesterday. He wants to direct and Gunn and Safran support him in this wish. So it is currently a matter of finding the right project.
Met Ben yesterday, precisely because he wants to direct & we want him to direct; we just need to find the right project. https://t.co/Haz1APdlVN

Despite young Superman: Metropolis instead of Smallville
Like the journal reports, the new “Superman” movie is set to show the hero back when he was just a young reporter just starting out in Metropolis. He also meets well-known figures such as Lois Lane.
Also the confirms with own sources that a young Superman does not mean a return to Smallville. We see Clark Kent as a reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolisthe magazine claims to have learned from its own sources.
and When asked by fans via Twitter, James Gunn clearly rejected an Origin story. So instead of seeing Superman sent to Earth again from Krypton, in the new movie we get to know him as a young adult who already has his powers.
“Black Superman” should continue
In addition, despite James Gunn’s new project, a “Black Superman” movie by JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates will continue to be developed. Both projects are currently co-existing, Coates continues to work on the script, which he will then present to Gunn and Safran. The Hollywood trade magazines report this unanimously.
Only after the presentation of the screenplay should Gunn and Safran make a final decision whether to push this project further. Either way, things remain exciting at DC, especially now that Gunn and Safran have probably decided to go on the announcement offensive.
