As the title makes clear, “Hannibal” revolves around the legendary commander, who is on his way to Rome with his army in 216 BC. When Sylvia falls into his hands one day, he decides not to imprison the daughter of a high-ranking senator, but to release her. Because she has to tell the Romans about his impressive army that is moving towards them. But Hannibal and Sylvia fall in love – which quickly leads to problems…

The director took over Edgar G Ulmer by the way, a true cinema legend. Born in Austria-Hungary in 1904, the filmmaker was already working in the film world in the 1920s, for example as a set designer for Fritz Lang’s milestones “Metropolis” and “M: Eine Stadt sucht ein Mörder”. Soon after, he made his breakthrough as a director, including films such as the Edgar Allen Poe adaptation “The Black Cat” with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.
