Which is better for nails – file or cut?

On average, our nails grow about one millimeter per week. Some use nail files for nail care, while others swear by nail clippers. There are different opinions about what is better and more gentle on the nails.

Anne Bunzler (44) was convinced: “The kindest thing for nails is to file them.” She is a qualified nail designer and has been working at TiNails nail studio in Bern for six years. The expert also explains why: “Sharp edges can occur with scissors or nail clippers and the nail tends to separate on its own.” Filing is a gentler method that can be used to achieve even edges.

natural manicure

The language here is about a natural manicure. If you have nail polish or nail polish (permanent nail polish) on your fingers, you should not use a glass file, scissors or scissors.

Opinions often differ when it comes to choosing a nail file: there are models made of glass, metal, sapphire or cardboard. All of them are made according to the same principle, in which abrasive particles are added to the respective material. With the glass version, sand-like particles are processed from the glass itself, while the cardboard file sits on top of the file.
Bunzler has a clear favorite: “Using a glass file or a metal file is recommended.” According to the expert, you should make sure that the sand is as fine as possible so that the nail tip does not burst too much.

If you pick up the scissors…

According to the nail specialist, if you still choose to use scissors or scissors, you should pay attention to one thing first of all: “It is important that they are sharp and that the scissors are slightly curved.” With blunt tools, you run the risk of splitting or popping the nail tip.
