After DC’s overthrow: This secret ‘Batman’ movie starring Michael Keaton is on hold

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn is the new head of DC Studios and will clean things up with producer Peter Safran – at least that’s the plan. In recent days, this has not only led to numerous rumors, but also to some tangible facts. So “Wonder Woman 3” with Gal Gadot is dead for now and blockbusters like “Black Adam 2” and a third “Aquaman” movie with Jason Momoa are anything but certain. Gunn himself explains that they will build on things that work for DC and fix what doesn’t work.

That can of course mean a lot and what the future of the DC Universe will look like in concrete terms is difficult to predict. But one thing is certain: little by little we will find out what the new plans for individual DC titles really mean. There is also news about the bat man.

This is what the “Batman” spin-off “Batman Beyond” starring Michael Keaton should look like

No, it’s not about “The Batman 2” with Robert Pattinson (“Twilight”). Rumor has it that this sequel is safe. According to The Hollywood Reporter (which quotes TheWrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, among others), there is now another “Batman” on hold. And worked as a screenwriter Christine Hodson (“Birds of Prey”, “The Flash”) on a “The Flash” spin-off in which Michael Keaton should slip back into the Batsuit. Gonzalez tweeted that Hodson’s movie was a Batman Beyond adaptation – a live-action adaptation of the 1999 animated series (which was called Batman Of The Future in Germany).

Hodson’s Batman Beyond was supposed to be a solo movie starring Keaton as an elderly Batman, a Batman in a future version of Gotham City, so to speak. A romance with Catwoman would also be on the cards. The film would have followed Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ films of the 1980s and 1990s, in which Keaton played the lead role.

At the moment, however, it looks like we won’t be seeing the retired Batman. Gunn and Safran dissuaded Christina Hodson from working on the screenplay — which, of course, doesn’t necessarily mean the project will never go ahead. As already reported, Gunn and Safran have stated that the DCU is in a transition phase and it is not yet known exactly how it will continue.

In “The Flash” we see Michael Keaton again as Batman

No matter what happens to Batman Beyond, there’s still a reunion with Keaton as Batman! In the summer of 2023, “The Flash” from director Andy Muschietti (“ES”) hits theaters and Keaton joins the game as Batman – but only as one of two Dark Knights. Ben Affleck (“Gone Girl”) will play Batman alongside Keaton. Time will tell if it will be the last appearances as bat superheroes for the two Hollywood stars.

“The Flash” will run in German cinemas from June 15, 2023. Everything you need to know about future DC movies can be seen in our video:
