Zombie invasion coming soon to “Star Wars”? That could turn the whole universe upside down

Jason Ward’s is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable insiders on everything coming to Star Wars. Now, through regular visits and conversations with sources, he’s dug up some information and rumors that he’s condensing into an hour-long YouTube video that has the potential to change Star Wars. On the surface, it’s all about the upcoming “Ahsoka” and “Skeleton Crew” series, but there could be much, much more to it.

Will there be a new galaxy in “Star Wars” soon?

It starts with that according to information from Ward, the upcoming series “Ahsoka” will take place in a completely new galaxy and not in the galaxy in which all previous “Star Wars” stories are set. We remember: in the second season of The Mandalorian, we meet Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). After the events of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, she is looking for Ezra Bridger and especially the great villain Thrawn. In “Ahsoka” she should find both of them – and not in the familiar galaxy, but in a completely new one. Incidentally, Ezra Bridger will probably be played there by Eman Esfandi, Thrawn by Lars Mikkelsen.

Ward also believes that the upcoming “Skeleton Crew” series will also be largely set in this new galaxy. As is well known, the series by Jon Watts, creator of the ‘Spider-Man’ films starring Tom Holland, is about a group of young people desperately trying to get home. This “home” is arguably from this new galaxy to the old familiar…

In the new galaxy: a force that has changed completely?

Now you might think: Yeah, okay, new galaxy. That’s just a few new places and planets and that’s good. It’s nice if not everything takes place on Tatooine. But it’s probably not that simple. In the new galaxy, many things would be very different. So there must be a completely different view of power, which must also be used differently. The fact that both new series are set in this other galaxy and are likely related (they were shot in parallel, crossover appearances are possible according to Ward) also suggests that Lucasfilm will introduce this world more widely because it’s important.

In addition Ward talks about magic users who originated and exist in this other galaxy, other than the Force users. Most importantly, the new galaxy is so separate from the one we know that whatever happened to the Emperor and the Rebellion didn’t matter – and that could create a whole new threat.

Thrawn’s invasion and a zombie army?

The fall of the Emperor has led the famed galaxy to embark on a harsh disarmament program led by Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly). However, this means the galaxy is largely defenseless against outside threats, as there is no longer a large army of stormtroopers and an arsenal full of AT-ATs – and Thrawn should take advantage of that.

Ward speculates with his information, that the ingenious villain is building an army in the new world. He is said to have magic-users as allies, but the army may also consist of the undead. So it’s conceivable that Thrawn will show up with some sort of zombie fleet.

Zombies, undead have been a topic in the “Star Wars” world in the past. For example, in some earlier novels that are now no longer canon, but so-called Legends stories, there were undead stormtroopers. Most importantly, a new canon novel (“Quest For The Hidden City” from the series “The High Republic”) was recently released, which also featured zombies. Chance?

The New Outside Threat: Originally probably a different plan

Another piece of information Ward was able to dig up suggests that Disney and Lucasfilm have big plans for this external threat from Thrawn. Because according to the “Star Wars” insider, this scenario has been on the agenda for a long time and should actually be introduced by the series “Rangers Of The New Republic”. The spin-off “The Mandalorian” was originally intended to show the law enforcement officers defending the Republic on the edge of the known galaxy. There, according to Ward, they should gradually encounter mysterious new threats – the first harbingers of the undead from the other galaxy.

However, this series was canceled after the firing of lead actress Gina Carano (she shared conspiracy stories on social media and made anti-Semitic remarks). Looks like Lucasfilm simply pushed parts of the “Rangers Of The New Republic” ideas to the other series and now push the introduction of this new galaxy through “Ashoka Tano” and “Skeleton Crew”.

A major crossover event – in theaters or on Disney+?

The urgency to introduce this major threat is another indication that this is something bigger than just one story arc in a series. And anyway: Thrawn showing up with an entire zombie army would also be an event bigger than these Disney+ series. In our opinion, it would be more the stuff of a big event where different characters would have to come together to defend the fledgling republic against this new threat. For example, Ward calls Bo Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and her Mandalorians here as logical defenses.

In addition, the “Star Wars” boss teased Kathleen Kennedy a possible major crossover event in the future of “Star Wars” a few years ago. The only question is: where can we see this? The fact that all preparation is done in series and is probably in the hands of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau in particular speaks for itself that it also happens at Disney +. However, in our opinion, such a zombie army invasion and ensuing massive war would be something for the big screen.

At the end of this article, however, it is important to note what Ward also emphasized: he has many insider sources and has seen a lot himself, most are still rumors and speculation. Only the future will tell what exactly happens, but there is much to suggest that the familiar “Star Wars” universe will be turned upside down with a completely new galaxy alongside the familiar.
