“Rush Hour 4” instead of women’s power reboot: Jackie Chan confirms plans

Like the magazine reported, explained Jackie Chan at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia that “rush hour 4should come. We are currently talking about the fourth part. He has a meeting with the director later that day.

He did not say who he meant by that. Brett Ratner, who directed all of the first three films, has not directed a film since 2014’s “Hercules.” After several actresses accused him of sexual assault and harassment, Hollywood studio Warner ended all further cooperation with Ratner. It’s more than unlikely that anyone will bring him back for “Rush Hour 4,” so a behind-the-camera change is to be expected here.

In front of the camera, of course, one has to rely completely on the proven chemistry between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. The American comedian has also indicated in the past that he would like to do a fourth film. Despite repeated announcements, it never happened. Recently, the franchise even seemed to be on the verge of a reboot. In 2019, reports circulated that instead of “Rush Hour 4”, a new series with two female cops should start. Chinese actress Li Bingbing (“Meg”) was in talks for a role here. But these plans have come to an end.

Jackie Chan: less action, more romance?

But now fans can hope again to get “Rush Hour 4″…and with it Jackie Chan in action. This has become a rarer sight of late, also because the star is noticeably shorter here – understandable at age 68 too. He revealed that to the public at the Red Sea International Film Festival that he wants to tell “fewer action stories and more love stories” in the future. He is currently working on a project he describes as “drama for women”.

By the way, a fairly new movie starring Jackie Chan just came out in Germany for home cinema, and it still packs a lot of action. “The Climbers” tells the story of a group of Chinese mountaineers who want to climb Mount Everest via the famous north face in 1960. It will be a life and death struggle for survival.

The adventure drama was released in cinemas in Hong Kong and China in 2019, so three years later in Germany. But a note for fans of the Hong Kong star: Jackie Chan can only be seen in a supporting role. Starring Jing Wu, arguably the biggest star of Chinese cinema today, who has helmed some of the biggest blockbusters of recent years.

When “Rush hour 4” comes out, we can only wait and see. The information is still too sparse, the project is probably still too early to make a forecast for publication. First of all, it is more fingers crossed that this time not everything falls apart again, but that the film will be made at all.
