New in theaters today: The biggest rover Hotzenplotz yet and the best chance to see the hardest horror movie of the year uncut!

As a child I mainly listened to “Die Drei???”, but my favorite cassette moment was how Seppl and grandma did it Robber Hotzenplotz using a psychological trick: they pretend to their captor that the soup they just ate had cracker mushrooms in it – and since Seppl pretends to writhe on the floor in pain, the imaginary twitching and pulling in his stomach also releases the robber . It’s all the better that the remake, which starts in theaters today, with the great Nicholas Ofczarek in the title role and August Diehl as the potato-addicted magician Petrosilius Zwackelmann, turned out really great.

There were then strong 4 stars in the official FILMSTARTS review – especially since the cast with stars like Olli Dietrich as Chief Inspector Alois Dimpfelmoser or Christiane Paul as Widow Schlotterbeck has other highlights in store. Director Michael Krummenacher relies entirely on the timeless template rather than panting for supposed trends – and that’s why”The robber Hotzenplotz“ not a bit dusty, On the contrary: that’s how Ottfried Preussler does it – and you can’t get the catchy melody of the coffee grinder out of your head after you’ve been to the cinema!

The heaviness of “Terrifier 2” is not a social media exaggeration!

On the other hand, “Terrifier 2” is a completely different story. The 138 minute (!) long sequel to a relatively unknown clown slasher from 2016 has already become an absolute surprise hit in the US. The reason for this was probably again social media, where the news spread quickly, how violent the film is – and that visitors* probably passed out or vomited during the screenings. You know such hypes – for example from “Smile”, which also went viral on TikTok a few months ago…

… but then also caused a lot of frustration because “Smile” is a really good, psychologically ambitious horror film – but not the heralded ultimate “After this movie you can never sleep again” shocker. However, things are different with “Terrifier 2”. It is less about horror than about the downright sadistic brutality with which the eponymous clown killer does his gory job. It is not cut away – it is held mercilessly for minutes. So probably more of a test of courage than a date movie.

However, “Terrifier 2” failed – unsurprisingly – the FSK’s FSK 18 test. This means that the official Blu-ray in Germany, even with an FSK 18, is only released in a three-minute shortened version. In the cinema, however, the film is now shown absolutely uncut – so if you want to see the movie, you probably shouldn’t pass up this opportunity this weekend.

Alternatively, you can currently import “Terrifier 2” uncut from Great Britain – but with a hefty price premium and no German sound:

Alternatively, German home theater rental company Nameless Media has also announced that alongside the cut FSK-18 Blu-ray, a media book of the film will be released in 2023 with an uncut version – but of course indexing or even a ban could still intervene. Another reason to see the movie live on the big screen next weekend if you’re interested…
