… and in this case a lot of genre fans should have been waiting for that. Because “Smile – do you see it too?” not only made headlines with impressive cinema numbers and strong reviews, but was also due to numerous complaints in the media, which were brought to the public from the cinema halls of this world.
Still, we advised you to buy a ticket to Parker Finn’s feature film debut. Anyone who, after numerous reports of people disrupting “Smile” movie screenings with questionable behavior, has consciously chosen not to experience the shocking climax on the big screen, can now catch up with the movie at home:

“Smile – Do you see it too” will be available as video on demand from December 1, 2022 on various streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, before DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray* will follow on December 15 – just in time to put under the Christmas tree for horror fans. Whether digital or physical, you should keep one thing in mind…
Note, risk of confusion: there are two different horror movies titled “Smile”, each instills fear and terror with a devilish smile on the cover. However, the current hype revolves around the tear with the German subtitle “Do you see it too?”. Smile – Destination Death is a 2009 Italian-British horror film.

“Smile”: There’s never been anything like it
The film about a series of mysterious deaths, in which the victims put an ominous grin on their face shortly before their death, does not necessarily have to reinvent the horror film wheel – and one or the other genre connoisseur may be reminded of films such as ‘The Ring”. and Co. remember. And yet: there has never been such a thing as “Smile”.
And we’re not talking about the crazy social media trend of acting like an idiot at the movies and then sharing it with the world. We are talking about the incomparable success story of the horror film:
Because after “Smile” got off to a good start in Germany, the film even doubled the number of viewers in the second weekend. An exception. To illustrate how exceptional this is, in the US the film generated 22 percent less revenue during its second weekend than during its opening weekend – making it the second highest grossing in horror film history (behind Get Out). However, in this country “Smile” did not lose at all, but won an incredible 100 percent. Incidentally, the $17 million film grossed a whopping $215 million worldwide, putting even Jordan Peele’s “Nope” in second place – which “only” grossed $171 million on four times (!) its budget.
We are not only happy about that, because it shows us more than clearly the fascination cinema exerts on the film audience, even in the era of advancing streaming. For us, “Smile” is a “stirring, well-told and staged horror film not to be missed.” In the conclusion of our 4-star review, our author Jochen Werner is not too keen on superlatives and makes a clear recommendation for all horror fans: “One of the best cinema horror films in a long time!”
