Shooting permit for Ticino wolf

As Bafu announced on Friday, the shooting queue will be limited to March 31, 2023. For a change in herd behavior to occur, the killings would have to occur in the area of the livestock herds and in the presence of a few wolves.

On November 3, the canton of Ticino made a request to Bafu to organize the wolf pack in Valle di Blenio after wolves had killed two cattle.

The wolf population in Switzerland is increasing. Currently, about 200 wolves and 23 herds live in Switzerland. The Federal Council wants to make it easier to kill wolves, in addition to provisions that will be amended in 2021, given the challenges facing Alpine farming.

On 9 November 2022, the Federal Council initiated the consultation on the relevant revision of the hunting regulation. It lasts until February 23, 2023. The changes are scheduled to come into effect in the summer of 2023.

Parliament is currently discussing a new bill to replace the federal hunting law. This should ensure that wolf populations are proactively regulated.
