Bad news for “Andor” fans: we have to wait so long for the second and final season on Disney+

From the beginning there was a set plan for “Andor”. Told largely in blocks of three episodes, each featuring a writer-director duo responsible for the first season, Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) first encounters a rebellion in the making. In a second season, things go a little faster, with a few jumps in time, the events in the almost five years until the movie “Villain One” told. But we still have to wait for this second season, which will again be designed in blocks of episodes.

The recordings for the second season of “Andor” have only started since the beginning of the week and that will take some time. With the exception of a Christmas holiday, series creator Tony Gilroy expects to film until August 2023. Post-production for the first season took another year. He assumes this will be the case again.

Therefore, the second season of “Andor” is not expected to launch on Disney+ until fall 2024. So we’ll probably have to wait almost two excruciatingly long years to find out how the story continues.

New team for the second season “Andor”

Under the direction of Tony Gilroy, the first season of “Andor” was always made in teams, each of which was assigned a storyline over three episodes. Together with director Toby Haynes (“Doctor Who”), Gilroy made the first three episodes as an introduction. His brother Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler”) and director Susanna White (“Verräter wie wir”) are responsible for episodes 4 to 6, which focus on the attack in Adlhani. After bridging episode 7 from writer Stephen Schiff (“The Americans”) and director Benjamin Caron (“The Crown”), Narkina Prison 5 took center stage in the next 3-episode act. It was performed by “House Of Cards” creator Beau Willimon with director Toby Haynes, who was on staff at the start. Tony Gilroy then made the final two episodes personal with director Benjamin Caron.

For the second season, he now partially changes this team. There is a lot of consistency on the author’s part. Here he will once again share duties with his brother Dan and the returning Beau Willimon. Journalist, author and ‘Star Wars’ fan Tom Bissell is new to the team. Ariel Kleiman (“Yellowjackets”), Janus Metz (“The Call”) and Alonso Ruizpalacios (“A Police Movie”) are on board as directors. Once again pairs of author and director are formed, who then create a series of episodes dominated by a particular narrative line.
