Graffiti artist Banksy called on shoplifters on Instagram to go to a store of the American fashion chain Guess in London and help themselves there. The background: In one of the shop windows – apparently without permission – a work by the artist has been used as background decoration. He shared a picture of the shop window and wrote:
In the window hung a print of his painting “Flower Thrower”. In addition, some of the clothes had prints of his artwork. The British BBC reported that shortly after the message was published, the windows of the Guess store were covered.
The company previously announced clothing for the winter season inspired by Banksy’s art. Press reports reported that a partnership had been established with the company Brandalised, which licenses various graffiti designs.
The company advertises photos of Banksy’s works and products they use on its website. However, it is unclear whether Bansky, whose identity is unknown, agreed to this. Neither his management nor Brandalised or Guess have commented on the incident so far.

Banksy posted photos of work on a destroyed house on his Instagram channel last week. The photo on his channel shows a girl on the gray wall seemingly doing a handstand on rubble. “Borodjanka, Ukraine” read the accompanying text.
Traditionally, the artist publishes his work on his channel to confirm that he is the author. He hadn’t reported on a collaboration with Brandalised or Guess.
