“The Net – Power Play” at Disney+: After “Prometheus”, another series about the dark sides of football is coming

The 2023 World Cup seems to be very different from all other tournaments before it. On the one hand, this is of course due to the fact that the games take place in the European winter, and on the other hand, this year’s location: Qatar. Even seasoned football fans are now anxiously watching their favorite sport and the World Cup is accompanied by numerous critical voices pointing out what is going wrong in the industry.

The fiction series in the series “Das Netz”, which includes the ARD production “Spiel am Abgrund” and the Austrian project “Prometheus”, also deals with the dark side of professional sports. While ‘Spiel am Abgrund’ deals with corrupt machinations and scandals of the major football associations, ‘Prometheus’ tells an exciting story about doping.

“Power Play” on Disney+: This is the third “The Net” series

The replenishment has already been produced! From December 14, 2022, the third production is “Das Netz”power game“ be streamed – on Disney+. The Italian series has so far only been shown on Italian television and on the Austrian streaming platform of ServusTV and is therefore not particularly accessible to the German public. The six episodes will soon be available for streaming.

And what is “Power Play” about? A traditional Italian club revered and celebrated by football fans for decades, but in financial difficulties. So it is decided to sell shares to a Chinese investor. But with the sale, figures come on the scene that endanger both the club and its employees. Suddenly the club is no longer about football, but only about money. Mafia structures threaten to destroy everything…
