Body-swapping comedy Freaky Friday became a huge success with a worldwide box office of more than $160 million. Of course, the two protagonists were also decisive for this: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. As a mother-daughter team, the duo always knew how to play against the predictable script in a casually lively way.
Now there is a sequel to “Freaky Friday” in the room, which was not pushed by Disney, but by Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. After Lohan already announced her interest in a sequel and told Jimmy Kimmel that she had already contacted Curtis about it, the ‘Halloween Ends’ star recently spoke to as follows:
“I’m turning 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36, so it’s a good fit for a sequel. We’re both ready, but it’s not up to us to make the movie. It’s a Disney production and I think they’re interested and we’re talking. The right people are talking. Let’s just try to make another part. We are still a long way from that.”
Jamie Lee Curtis wants to make Lindsay Lohan the sexy grandma
Jamie Lee Curtis also announced that she wrote to Disney in October 2022 to pitch her idea for a new Freaky Friday: “Let me be Grandma! Let me be the old granny who changes bodies. So Lindsay will be the sexy granny that still still happily married to Mark Harmon. […] I’d love to see how Lindsay is the hot grandma and I’d love to see how I try to handle toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world as an old lady.
This means that while a Freaky Friday sequel hasn’t been green-lit yet, talks mean production could be taking shape. It remains to be seen if anything will eventually come of it. With the two stars on board and the memory of the success of the first part, Disney should ultimately find no major counter arguments why “Freaky Friday 2” should not be implemented.
