Emily Blunt is an extremely versatile performer. We know her from sci-fi hits (“Edge Of Tomorrow”), horror hits (“A Quiet Place 1 + 2”), clever comedies (“The Devil Wears Prada”) and lavish historical films (“The Young Victoria”). One of the few genres that the London native has not touched is the western.
That is now changing with The English series, which launched on BBC Two on November 10, 2022, and on Amazon Prime Video across much of the world on November 11, 2022. In Germany, on the other hand, the western series will not celebrate its debut on MagentaTV until November 26, 2022.
There will be a total of six episodes, all of which should run for just under an hour. The whole was not only conceived, but also written and directed by the British Hugo Blick. His previous multi-award winning works include “The Honorable Woman”, “Sensitive Skin” and most recently “Black Earth Rising”.
Co-starring in The English is Chaske Spencer, known for playing Sam Uley in the Twilight series and Deputy Billy Raven in the hit TV crime series Banshee. Besides him and Blunt are Rafe Spall (“Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom”), Tom Hughes (“A Discovery Of Witches”), Stephen Rea (“The Crying Game”), Toby Jones (“Frost/Nixon”), the Austrian Valerie Pachner (“Fantastic Beasts 3”) and Ciarán Hinds, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2022 for his performance in “Belfast”.
This is the story of “The English”
Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) is a wealthy Englishwoman who comes to North America in 1890 to avenge the death of her son. Once she arrives, she hires former American cavalry scout Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer), who belongs to the Pawnee tribe, to accompany her. As the two cross the hostile prairie together, they initially fail to realize how much their individual pasts link them together.

When they reach their destination, Hoxem, Wyoming, they are greeted by Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea), the city sheriff. He and a mysterious young woman (Valerie Pachner) involve the unlikely duo in the investigation of a series of murders as brutal as they are grotesque that have taken place in the region. Cornelia feels that her son could also be a victim of the perpetrator…
