How can we heat climate-friendly and independently in the future?

Heating accounts for about one-fifth of Switzerland’s energy needs, and around 60 percent of all homes are heated with oil and gas.

Research into more sustainable technologies is carried out at the Swiss Federal Materials Testing and Research Laboratories. “Electric-based heating systems such as heat pumps can make a significant contribution,” explains Philipp Heer, vice president of the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory. “Of course only if the electricity comes from renewable sources.”

A problem to be solved: How can solar or wind energy be stored? Lucerne start-up Cowa Thermal Solutions is working on a solution.

On Podcast – blick.ch, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever there are podcasts – you can hear exactly how their technology works and what other technologies are enabling eco-friendly heating.
