Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez is proud of her new official last name. “People will keep calling me Jennifer Lopez. But my official name will be Ms. Affleck because we’re connected,” the 53-year-old, who said yes to actor Ben Affleck in July, told Vogue. “We are husband and wife. I’m proud of that.”
She can understand when married couples decide that the man takes the last name of the woman, the singer explains. However, she stressed that her own decision does not make her feel like she has given up power or control. “I just think it’s romantic. It still brings tradition and romance to me and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
Lopez and Affleck were married in Las Vegas in July and in a grand ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia home in August. The singer then signed her up on the JLo newsletter with the name Jennifer Lynn Affleck. The Latina star and the Hollywood actor were a couple about 20 years ago, but then broke off their engagement and broke up in January 2004. (aeg/sda/dpa)
