Tips for staying warm at home

Electricity prices exploded. Depending on the municipality, private households will pay more than double for electricity next year. The federal government recommends that anyone with gas heating only turn on the heating to a maximum of 19 degrees. In some offices, the heating is currently turned off to save energy.

So that you do not freeze at work or at home, bedding bottles and heating pads, which you can easily make yourself, are suitable.

This keeps the hot water bottle hotter for longer

On the couch, in bed or in the home office: The bottle keeps you warm and comfortable anywhere. It is made of rubber or PVC material and retains heat for quite a long time.

Sprinkling some dissolved salt in the water helps to keep the bottle warm for longer. This old house trick works because the brine has a higher heat capacity, so the bottle stays hot longer.

But be careful: You should never fill the hot water bottle with boiling water. The pressure caused by the expansion of water vapor can cause a burst. Also, you should only fill two-thirds of the bottle, not completely.

How can you make your own heat pack?

Another simple way to warm up is pillows made from cherry seeds or grain. You can heat them in the microwave at 600 watts for about two minutes or put them in the oven at 150 degrees for ten minutes. To avoid overheating, the pillow should always cool completely before reheating.

You can easily make a cherry stone pillow yourself. For this, you need fabric that you sew to form a pillow and fill it with cherry stones, rapeseed, chestnut or spelt. You can also use an old zippered pillowcase if you don’t want to sew.
