“Black Adam” Starring Dwayne Johnson May Dominate The Cinema Hits, But A Tough Gangster Thriller Sets a Record

From the start, there was no doubt that “Black Adam” with Dwayne Johnson would be successful. The charismatic muscle mountain with the iconic pearly white grin is just incredibly popular. In the USA, among other places, the DC blockbuster is back at number 1 in the cinema charts after ten days to a solid $250 million at the worldwide box office and has also surpassed James Gunn’s 2021 “The Suicide Squad.” But it must be said that “The Suicide Squad” was also released on HBO Max at the same time.

“Black Adam” is also strong in Germany – but another film is celebrating record numbers!

Also in Germany, “Black Adam” defended the first place in the cinema charts. According to forecasts by Indoor cinema approximately 200,000 tickets could be sold, bringing the film to approximately 575,000 viewers since its inception. Interest in superhero goggles in this country has waned a bit, but it’s still impressive. But there’s also a record to discover this week – and that has nothing to do with high-budget blockbuster cinema from DC, Marvel and Co.!

Of “RhinegoldDirector Fatih Akin (“The Golden Glove”) has had the best theatrical start of his entire career. About 172,500 viewers have seen the tough biopic about rapper Xatar so far. The previous record holder for Fatih Akin films was the charming neighborhood comedy Soul Kitchen, which had 163,138 viewers at launch. The success of “Rheingold” proves two things: hip-hop is still one of the strongest youth cultures of all, and Fatih Akin is a director whose name can attract the masses.

The top five of the German charts is with “The School of Magical Animals 2” (137,500 viewers/1.76 million in total, making it the most successful German film of the year so far), “Der Nachname” (115,000/in total 332, 5000) and “Smile – Do You See It Too?” (110,000 / total 1.08 million) completed.
