6 beauty devices in the test

Masks for light therapy, massagers against dark circles or heated eyelash curlers – there are many accessories in the beauty world now at home. With a huge selection of high-tech appliances in the cosmetics section, nothing can stand in the way of wellness at home!

Thanks to the developing technology, high-tech beauty devices are expected to become smarter. We tested some of them.

LED mask – tested by editor Lea Lozano

LED face masks have long been a favorite of celebrities. Now devices are being discovered more and more on our shelves. The 54 LED lights of Hee Beauty’s “Magic Mask” penetrate deep into the skin and improve your appearance. Especially problems such as acne, redness, excess sebum and the first wrinkles should be treatable with it. Three different modes use red, blue or purple light, each suitable for a specific problem area. The application takes 15 minutes a day, and the first successes should already be visible in the first week. However, long-term use is recommended, especially to obtain a clean and bright skin.

Solution: The LED mask has an adjustable elastic band and a transparent visor. This way, you can do other things during treatment. The colored light feels a little warm, which is especially nice. However, the battery leaves much to be desired. This is enough for just one full application, the second time the light stopped after five minutes and the mask needed to be recharged. After about a week, I still don’t see any real difference in my skin, but I can imagine the device will show up with longer use. As a result, the mask offers a relaxing break with a touch of luxury.

LED massager – tested by editor Sonja Zaleski-Körner

The new “Your skin is on fire” that smoothes, defines, soothes and brightens the skin. The LED beauty device from Dutch cosmetics company Milu is expected to be able to do just that. The LED massager is pink, useful and similar to the Gua Sha stone, it is designed to be used on the face and for ten minutes in the morning and evening. Four different modes are available for application using red and/or blue or violet light as well as heat, vibration and microcurrent as appropriate. I wonder if the tool lives up to its promises and makes my skin look fresher in the early morning hours.

Solution: It is easy to use, the beauty tool fits in (almost) any bag, and is suitable for many uses once charged. I was particularly impressed with the alternating red and blue light mode, including the heat function, vibration and microcurrent: After ten minutes of massaging my neck and face exactly as instructed twice a day, my skin really looked. rose. It is better nourished with blood, has a natural glow and previously applied care products are better absorbed by the heat. It’s not like “Your skin is on fire”. The LED device can remove the first wrinkles, but reduce them a little immediately after use. The moment of wellness at home that will always enrich my beauty routine from now on.

Facial sauna – tested by Vertical Hub trainee Fabienne Amez-Droz

Sauna for the face? – It really is! Rio’s facial sauna opens the pores of the skin with its warm steam, cleans it and removes the dirt. The beauty tool is easy to apply and you just need some water. The facial sauna will heat up in just a few minutes and then start producing steam. You can choose how strong the steam will be. With a second, smaller attachment, you can concentrate the steam for the nose. This can also relieve a cold or a stuffy nose.

Solution: Rio facial sauna is a useful home remedy for clogged pores and colds. The water vapor makes it possible to loosen the clinging mucus so that you can breathe better. Unfortunately, the beauty gadget takes up a lot of space.

Eye massager – tested by editor Vanessa Büchel

Swedish beauty tech specialist Foreo is always finding something new. With “Iris 2” they developed a device with a decongestant and brightening effect. It is said to rejuvenate tired eyes, reduce under-eye bags, dark circles and crow’s feet. Basically the perfect device for me, I’ve been struggling with severe dark circles for as long as I can remember. I tried a few things and nothing really helped.

Solution: A very enjoyable spa experience that completes my morning beauty routine with massage moments. It’s very easy to apply and the device is small and handy as well as being pretty pink. Thanks to its size, you can carry it with you on vacation. Different impulse levels are also practical – depending on the level of fatigue I can enjoy a stronger massage. Unfortunately, the result itself does not convince me personally. After using it, my dark circles are as strong as before. I definitely feel fresher thanks to the massage!

Heated eyelash curler – tested by community editor Emilie Jörgensen

Eyelashes like in the movies – this is the dream of every beauty lover. But beautiful, long eyelashes are often associated with a lot of effort and high costs. You can quickly withdraw over 100 francs for a professional lash lift. Popular eyelash extensions are also quite expensive. But with the «Grande Cosmetics Lash Curler», a heated eyelash curler, creating incredible winks at home should now be a breeze. Similar to a mascara brush, you run the heated device over the lashes to give the lashes the necessary curl.

Solution: The heated eyelash curler is easy to use, heats up quickly and can therefore be used immediately. But for me, it is no substitute for a professional lash lift done by a beautician. Only a minimal difference can be seen after application. Test failed. However, there is one star each for ease of use and speed of the device.

Electronic body brush – tested by social media manager Jan-Niklas Reinhardt

The German electronics company Beurer took on the task of producing products aimed at ensuring health and well-being. The electronic body brush – yes, really electronic – should provide “remarkably bright and soft skin” with two different brush attachments. That’s the theory. Personally, I can’t really complain about the look of my skin, just my back has been a concern with impure skin since my adolescence and it has only gotten marginally better over time. Does «FC 55 Pureo Complete Cleansing» help?

Solution: I really couldn’t get better skin from the brush – much expected. In fact, it may have something to do with the fact that I only tested the product for about a week. Basically it can be said: The brush gives an upgrade to the shower experience and brings a bit of health to your own four shower walls. The application is not very practical, the handle is too long and bulky for this. Conversely, it favors less flexible people (I guess I should count myself among them) to reach inaccessible parts of the back. The rotation of the brush is nice, not too tight but not too weak either. Still, to be honest, the brush is too bulky for everyday use, but as a “luxury item” it’s very nice for some days.
