It’s been less than a week since Taylor Swift’s tenth studio album “Midnights” was released. The singer is known for giving her fans hidden messages and especially personal insights in her lyrics, but also in her music videos. The artist also sticks to this line in her new video. But fans noticed one detail in particular — and it was extremely negative. Now the singer has responded.
According to Swift, the song “Anti-Hero” and its accompanying video describe the singer’s “nightmare scenarios and anxious thoughts.” In the five-minute video, the 32-year-old is also on a scale. But instead of her weight, it says “fat,” indicating a struggle with an eating disorder.
In her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana”, Taylor Swift spoke for the first time about her problems with her own ideal of beauty. However, fans were quick to point out that dealing with the disease in their video is questionable.
On Twitter, therapist Shira Rose, who specializes in eating disorders, explains why she finds the presented situation problematic.
Taylor Swift’s music video, in which she looks down on the “fat” scale, is a bad way to describe her struggle with her body image. Fat people don’t have to repeat that it’s everyone’s worst nightmare to look like us.

It’s “a bad way to describe her body image problems,” the therapist says, because “Fat people don’t need to be told again that looking like us is everyone’s worst nightmare.” The video thus reinforces the assumption that being overweight means disgusting or bad. “Having an eating disorder does not excuse obesity,” she adds.
The tweet has been liked more than 43,000 times. With nearly 5,000 retweets, it now hosts a whole discussion that even Taylor Swift apparently couldn’t avoid.
Although fans also jump on her side, who think that “having insecurities is no longer allowed because it can upset a fat person somewhere”, but the singer has drawn her conclusions. She relented and has now decided to completely remove the controversial look at the scale from her video.

Meanwhile, “Midnights” breaks all records. On Spotify alone, the album was listened to more than any other day in one day. And that on the day of its own publication. After just four days, “Midnights” already had the strongest streaming week of the year, as “EW” reports. The music videos published so far have already been clicked in the tens of millions.
