Although Lake Ägeri is often crowded when the weather is nice, you will encounter almost no one on the high-altitude hike and can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view.

As soon as the sun rises, people retreat to nature. Crowds gather quickly in places known for big tours. Swiss travel guide Marc Gottwald is fed up with this. He studied environmental sciences at ETH and, as managing director of Myswisspanorama, offers trips to the most beautiful places in Switzerland.

“Whether crystal clear lakes, huge glaciers, spectacular landscapes, golden-red forests or charming mountain villages, it is absolutely incredible what Switzerland has to offer in such a small area,” the travel expert tells Blick.

Despite Switzerland’s diversity, finding such insider tips online takes a lot of time and patience, which is why most people go to the same crowded places over and over again. Blick, Gottwald exclusively reveals his six best insider tips for a successful Easter trip.

Hike from Morschach SZ to Sisikon UR

“This walk is one of my favorite walks: England’s Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill already knew about the beauty of this area,” says Gottwald. During the hike you have the impressive Fronalpstock behind you and you always have a magnificent view of Lake Lucerne.

According to Gottwald, the large stones you can see are particularly striking: “These are so-called rocks that were transported many kilometers away by glaciers. These polished stones can even be found in the Zurich area, which was covered with ice 20,000 years ago.”

Route: Morschach – Sisikon mountain road
Duration: approximately 2 hours 15 minutes
Difficulty level: simply
A warning: steep descent

Goldseeli in Goldau SZ

Goldseeli was created by a tragic story: in 1806, one of the largest landslides in Switzerland occurred in Goldau, creating this extraordinary lake. The walk through the wild forest shows impressive rocks. Trees are left here, providing dead wood to nature as an important living and feeding area for animals and plants.

“For me this is an exemplary concept and something you rarely see outside of Sihlwald, which is so close to Zurich,” says Gottwald. In the spring, around May, wild orchids bloom here. If you are very lucky and calm, you may even see a kingfisher. Barbecue areas are also available. “As it is a nature reserve inhabited by many rare animals and plants, it is important to enjoy the peace and quiet,” advises the travel expert.

Route: Goldau bus terminal, Buosingen Camping – Goldseeli
Duration: about 45 minutes
Difficulty level: very easy
A warning: Parking is actually for campsites only, but can be requested

Walk from Ernen VS to Mühlebach VS

“This hike is a must for nature and culture lovers,” Gottwald assures. Because Ernen is not only one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland, it also offers magnificent panoramic views of the Valais Alps.

“Since Ernen was the religious and political center of Goms, the gallows can still be found here,” says Gottwald. Some of the highlights of this walk are the blooming cherry trees and the strictly protected orchids that can be seen in the direction of Mühlebach from May onwards. However, their collection is strictly prohibited.

At the end of the route you will be rewarded: “When you arrive in Mühlebach you can discover the oldest wooden village center in Switzerland. “Some of the houses are over 500 years old.”

Route: Ernen – Mühlebach – Ernen
time length: about 2 hours
Difficulty leveld: easy
A warning: You can also switch to the postal bus on the way back, but the bus operates irregularly.

Walk from Sigriswil BE to Gunten BE

“I’ve probably never had so many breaks on this one-hour walk,” the guide admits. On this route, you suddenly feel like you are in another world. «On sunny days this is the perfect place to enjoy the view of Lake Thun and Niesen, as well as the many flowers in spring. You can even see the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. “It is a beautiful place of power with many traditions in the Bern region,” continues Gottwald.

High altitude hiking in Ägerisee ZG

Lake Ägeri is a popular travel destination and is usually well attended at Easter. That’s why Gottwald suggests: “Why not enjoy the panoramic view over Lake Ägeri almost alone?”

Hiking is one of his favorite walks when he just wants to go a short route, see the Alps and still meet almost no people. «Beautiful high altitude hiking allows you to take time for yourself and guarantees peace and quiet. Apart from a few agricultural machines and birds, you will encounter almost no one,” promises Gottwald.

Route: Morgarten – Brestenberg – Rämsli – Oberägeri

Take a walk near Stein SG in Toggenburg

“For me, the Toggenburg is a natural pearl with many important properties,” says Gottwald. Stein is a particularly beautiful place. A little further away you can discover romantic farmhouses, cows and even llamas: “Since dairy farming has not been profitable for a long time, farmers and tourist areas in general are looking for creative solutions and new income opportunities. “explains the travel guide.

Hiking with llamas, also offered in Toggenburg, is especially popular in Switzerland. This pleasant walk from Stein to Badhus is interesting for both children and adults. If you prefer to travel longer, you can hike from Stein to Arvenbüel above Lake Walen in about three and a half hours.

Route: Stone – Badhus – Stone
Duration: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes
Difficulty level: very easy
don’t notice: If you decide to take a longer walk towards Arvenbüel, you should have snowshoes as there is still snow on this route.
