TV premiere: Intense, brutal cop action with stars from “Mission: Impossible,” “Oppenheimer” and “Terminator”

Most of us are probably aware that the US military and intelligence services have secret bases in many corners of the world where they detain, interrogate, and most likely do other things to terrorist suspects. The tough action thriller “Black Site” is set in such a facility. In the evening, the star-studded thriller can be seen for the first time on free television. But be careful! There’s a catch:

“Black Site” will be available on Tele 5 today, March 28, 2024 at 8:15 PM. Since the film received a well-deserved FSK 16 rating, the broadcaster has to show it shortened to remove the most violent peaks when they is broadcast for the first time. broadcast.

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend it to you if there weren’t unadulterated alternatives. A repeat will take place on the night of March 29 to 30 at 11:50 PM, during which the film can be shown uncut. If you want to be 100 percent sure that everything is shown to you, you can You can currently watch the film at no additional cost as part of your Amazon Prime Video streaming subscription.

But you can’t do this forever, as the title will be removed from the flat-rate program on May 1. It is available in the same location as Blu-ray, DVD or paid video on demand regardless of date:

A whole host of familiar faces await you in “Black Site”. The lead role is played by Michelle Monaghan from ‘Mission: Impossible III’, ‘Boston’ and the first, probably best season of the cult series ‘True Detective’. At her side are Jai Courtney (“Suicide Squad”) and Jason Clarke from “Planet of the Apes 2: Revolution” and most recently “Oppenheimer”. The duo already appeared together in front of the camera in “Terminator: Genisys”.

“Black Site” on Tele 5: that’s the story

CIA agent Abby Trent (Monaghan) lost her family in a terrorist attack some time ago. Today, she now runs a secret, underground facility in Jordan. At the so-called ‘black site’, only suspects classified as extremely dangerous are detained and interrogated.

Shortly before Abby is transferred to a new posting elsewhere, a team of elite soldiers deliver her one of the world’s most wanted terrorists as a new recruit. At first, Abby sees the whole thing as a happy coincidence: her private investigation has revealed that this man codenamed Hatchet (Clarke) must be responsible for the deaths of her loved ones.

But before the officer can interrogate him and perhaps even devise a plan for revenge, Hatchet escapes from custody. In an attempt to somehow reach the surface and thus freedom, he brutally takes the lives of one officer after another in the labyrinthine prison complex. As Abby does everything she can to track him down, she soon realizes that the man needs help from her subordinates. Who can she trust now?

Weak CGI effects, cool action

As the synopsis suggests, “Black Site,” which was co-written by “Master & Commander” and “Monkey Man” author John Collee, is not a classical chamber piece, but it is set in a single location. Australian Sophia Banks, who won many awards with her short films and commercials, managed to create a wonderfully claustrophobic, almost horror-like atmosphere in her feature debut, which adds a lot to the tension.

The CGI effects can be very weak at times due to the limited budgets and the dialogue is usually quite flat or clichéd. However, the action, especially when the characters are in close combat, is staged at a surprisingly high level. And if you really like it (and by that we mean gory!), then you really get your money’s worth here. Action fans who accept “Black Site” as a B-movie and don’t expect a miracle should enjoy it.
