Spider-Man, Captain America and co. pay their respects in Basel

An exhibition in Basel takes you into the original and grotesque universe of Marvel’s superheroes. The exhibition presents itself as a walk through a 3D comic.

The green human monster Hulk welcomes visitors to the exhibition “Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes” in the spacious hall 1.2 of Messe Basel. This well-known figure offers the opportunity for a selfie in front of the entrance gate of the exhibition trail.

Other characters, such as the stone monster “The Thing” from “Fantastic Four” or the famous Spider-Man, offer further opportunities for photographic encounters – if you can get there in the expected large-scale parade from Saturday.

The organisers, mainly Semmel Exhibitions and Act Entertainment from Basel, expect more than 200,000 visitors at the end of August. More than 10,000 tickets have already been sold in advance, Thomas Dürr of Act Entertainment said during the media tour on Thursday.

The Marvel Universe exhibition was – how could it be otherwise – developed in the US. Like the comics and movies that were part of the pop culture canon for a long time. The performance in Basel is the first outside the US, a European premiere, as was emphasized at the media conference.

The exhibition, which leads from comic book hero to comic book hero, offers insight into the history and stories of the Marvel characters, who are actually all anti-heroes. This starts with original drawings from the earliest comics from the 1930s and leads to the well-known film characters, who can be admired behind glass as mannequins in original costumes.

One of the highlights of the exhibition, which mainly shows large gestures, is very small: it is a beautifully put together set from ‘Ant-Man’. In a hologram projection you see the small figures Ant Man and The Wasp running through a tablescape.
