Oral Storytelling Day: How will you mark it?

Oral Storytelling Day will be celebrated every March 20, and the Circle of Oral Storytelling, Héctor Collado, already has an activity scheduled.

It is an afternoon of stories in which children who are part of the Circle will participate.

The activity will take place at 15:00, at Ernesto J. Castillero Libraryin the recreation park Omar.

The performance tells about a collective story based (adaptation) on the story of the Páparo indigenous people from southwestern Mexico, the idea of ​​which stems from the fact that a few years ago a Colombian storyteller who knew circles came to Panama at the “Alekos” book fair, worked in a workshop with children that resulted in this story.

“Telling and reading stories helps us create many kinds of civic, ethical, and cultural connections with the world; “They are the best values ​​that can be acquired with literature,” said Carlos Fong, reading promoter and leader of this oral storytelling circle.

He added that the dynamic that is applied consists of looking for stories in the library and popular culture, where there is a story and where it is about socializing, he explained.

Eight years ago, MiCultura, together with the National Library of Panama, created the Children’s and Youth Circle of Oral Storytelling, Héctor Collado, in which children from 7 to 12 years old participate, with the aim of saving the art of storytelling and promoting the social value of storytelling. . word.

Parents interested in their children’s participation in this program can come on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. on the IV floor to the children’s room of the National Library.
