The Federal Statistical Office has published the new traffic accident statistics for 2023. We have summarized the most important figures and facts for you.
Last year, a total of 53,470 road accidents occurred in Switzerland. Of these, 35,216 were accidents with property damage and 18,254 were accidents with personal injury. The highest number of road fatalities occurred in the canton of Vaud (34 fatalities). Compared to 2022, the number of accidents in the canton has decreased, but in 2023 there were still significantly more than in the other cantons. The fewest people died, with one death each, in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, the canton of Jura and the canton of Schaffhausen.
