Presales for the individual films will start soon. Now we would like to introduce you to four promising titles from the program that we, as an official media partner, can be the first to reveal.
“Boy Kills World”
Since a concept trailer started making the rounds on the internet over a year ago, many action fans have been full of anticipation “Boy kills the world“. The overwhelmingly positive reactions after the world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival have fueled this even further. Now, thanks to Fantasy Filmfest Nights, there’s the first opportunity to see German director Moritz Mohr’s outrageous action film in this country – and depending on the festival city, even before or at least around its US theatrical release on April 26. 2024.
The focus is on Bill Skarsgård from “John Wick 4” and the upcoming “The Crow” remake as a mute and deaf boy. Transformed into the ultimate killing machine in a dystopian future, he now joins a rebellion against the ruling family of ruthless tyrant Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen). His goal is revenge because the Van Der Koys killed his parents…
Featuring action experts Yayan Ruhian and Andrew Koji and Jessica Rothe (“Happy Deathday”), ex-football star Isaiah Mustafa (“IT: Chapter 2”), Michelle Dockery (“Downton Abbey”), Brett Gelman (“Stranger Things”) and Sharlto Copley (“District 9”), “Boy Kills World” also features a top-notch cast beyond the lead role…
“The Soul Eater”
Since the 2007 shocker ‘Inside’, Frenchmen Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury have become a brand in modern horror cinema – and are both famous and feared for their uncompromising, groundbreaking and brutal works. In “The Soul Eater“ Now they mix fantasy horror with police thrillers.
Veteran police commander Élisabeth Guardiano (Virginie Ledoyen) is sent to a small town to investigate two extremely brutal and bizarre deaths. But there’s more going on in the place. Gendarme Franck de Rolan (Paul Hamy) investigates the disappearance of six children. The locals are convinced that an ancient legend, the Soul Eater, is responsible for all the deeds. The unlikely agents soon discover that their cases are really connected… and terrible things begin to happen…
“The Weird Kidz”
This year’s festival’s varied program also features classic hand-drawn animation. In horror comedy “The Weird Kidz“ by director Zach Passero, a few nerdy kids around twelve-year-old Dug go on a camping trip in the desert. The fact that they are warned along the way that a mysterious creature is up to mischief is dismissed as just a horror story. But the further the night goes on, the more they have to wonder if something might be going on.
The animated film features some better-known names in speaking roles. Angela Bettis, who has been well known to horror fans since Lucky McKee’s “May”, can be heard as a warning on the group’s path. Ellar Coltrane (“Boyhood”) plays Dug’s older brother, who accompanies the children as a babysitter. The film was produced by the aforementioned horror specialist Lucky McKee (in addition to “May”, also “The Woman”, “Old Man”).
“Cobweb”
Of course, the Korean cinema that is currently so popular should not be missed. “Spider web“ is the long-awaited work by genre jack-of-all-trades Kim Jee-woon (“I Saw The Devil”, “The Last Stand”) and is about the shooting of a film project that completely gets out of hand. ‘Parasite’ star Song Kang-ho plays a director who wants to create an elaborate spider-horror masterpiece in the 1970s. But hardly anyone seems to understand his new idea for the film’s ending; the censorship authorities even forbid him to do so. But Kim is unwilling to compromise and soon things go haywire…
