The Oscars have the highest television ratings since 2020

The Academy Awards had the largest television audience in the United States since 2020, with 19.5 million people who watched it live, 4% more than the previous year, according to Nielsen data cited by American media.

The figures represent good news for the world of cinema after audiences bottomed out in 2021, a year in which all award competitions suffered declines. due to the pandemic and where the Oscar ceremony attracted only 10.4 million viewers.

Last night’s ceremony, broadcast by ABC and hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, drew 4% more viewers than last year, when 18.76 million people watched the Oscars gala.

This way, The 96th Academy Awards had the highest television ratings since 2020. when that ceremony — held a month before the United States went into lockdown due to the pandemic — drew 23.64 million viewers.

The big winner of last night’s gala evening was the film ‘Oppenheimer’ by director Christopher Nolan, winning as many as seven statuettes, including for best film and best director, the first in the long career of the British filmmaker.
