When David Zaslav started working as the new boss at Hollywood giant Warner in 2022, it was accompanied by tough austerity measures. This also resulted in projects disappearing forever – in some cases even though they had not yet been shown anywhere (such as a ‘Batgirl’ movie). One victim of these cuts is “Last room“. The fan-favorite sci-fi animated series disappeared from the HBO Max subscription offering in the US in July 2022 and shortly afterwards from all other VoD providers, where you could at least still buy the episodes.
In the rest of the world, ‘Final Space’ took a little longer. Due to existing contracts, Netflix was still able to show the series. But little by little these ran out and the title disappeared from the offer. This will soon also happen in Germany. While we were initially lucky here and not affected by the major delisting of the title in many countries in December 2023, the agreement now appears to be expiring for Germany as well.
Because As Netflix has now announced, ‘Final Space’ will only be available to watch until March 18, 2024. If you still want to discover or look forward to the series reminiscent of “Rick and Morty” or “Futurama” about a naive person who goes on an adventure in space with a cuddly but rather destructive alien and has to save the universe, then stay tuned that you don’t have much time left.
“Last Space” will be deleted forever!
Above all, you should not expect that ‘Final Space’ will be released again on Netflix or another streaming service in the future. As series creator Olan Rogers announced, his project is part of a tax-depreciation model from Warner. And One of the important pillars of this model is that the title may never be shown again. This is the only way it can be written off as a loss forever.
The series creator was quite bitter that his production was not simply stopped after three seasons, as was to be expected, but suddenly disappeared completely. That is why he wants to take different paths in the future. He sets up his new project independently. With support from fans, he was already able to make a pilot episode for “Godspeed”. He recently raised enough money on Kickstarter to make another episode, which he then plans to publish on YouTube the pilot can already be seen. To create an entire series series, numerous fundraising efforts would have to follow.
“Final Space”: There will be another finale!
And with ‘Final Space’ he also has good news for everyone who wants to know how the story continues after the third season and ultimately ends. Due to the tax depreciation model, it is not legally possible for him to produce a fourth season himself. As he revealed, After long negotiations, he managed to get Warner to allow him to end the series with the help of a very large comic book.
This is currently in the works and shouldn’t be released until late 2024 at the earliest. Although Rogers has to ask a hefty price of more than €115 for it, there are already more than 27,000 pre-orders.
