‘It’s for Children’: ‘Harry Potter’ star taps into adult fans of the fantasy saga

It’s been 26 years since the first volume of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was published, and 22 years since its film adaptation hit the big screen. Many of us have been fans of “Harry Potter” ever since – and that worries Miriam Margolyes, who plays Professor Pomona Sprout.

In an interview with New Zealand magazine The British actress spoke to adult fans of the franchise and stepped on their toes with her assessment: ‘I think they must be over it by now. I mean, it’s been 25 years, and it’s for kids. think it’s for kids.

“You’re Stuck in It”

Margolyes can’t understand how adults can still be so addicted to the fantasy series: “They’re stuck in it. I do guest appearances, and people say, “Oh, we’re going to have a Harry Potter-themed wedding,” and I think, “Gosh, what’s their wedding night going to be like?” I’d rather not imagine it. No.”

Miriam Margolyes played the role of Herbology teacher Prof. Sprout in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”. The actress has nothing against the famous film series per se, thinks they are “great” and is grateful that she was allowed to participate – but these films had their time: “It is over.”

Some time ago Margolyes said in an interview with explained, that the “Harry Potter” franchise doesn’t mean as much to her as it does to many fans: “For me, ‘Harry Potter’ wasn’t important. I was very happy to get the part and I enjoyed being there and meeting all these people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

“Harry Potter” won’t be Charles Dickens, even with Warner Bros.’ planned new series. – but perhaps Miriam Margolyes will at least reconsider her attitude that the franchise is a thing of the past? Finally, the series about Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and of course Voldemort is being completely retold – for a young, new audience, but of course also for all adult, long-standing fans. ‘Harry Potter’ couldn’t be more current than with a brand new series and new actors…
