The Oscars will be presented for the 96th time on Monday evening at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The duel between “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” also enters the next round in the acting categories: Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan “Ken” Gosling are competing against each other as potential best supporting actors, while both Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”) and America Ferrera (“Barbie”) are in the running for best supporting actress. Cillian “Oppi” Murphy, Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”), Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) and Lily Gladstone (“Killers Of The Flower Moon”) have a realistic chance of being honored for a leading role this year.” or Sandra Hülser (“Anatomy of a Case”).
Some of the actors mentioned may hope for one of the coveted golden statues for the first time, but there are also a number of established Hollywood stars who have not yet been awarded this triumph. For many of them, it’s hard to imagine that they haven’t even managed to score a nomination in their career! We have listed the biggest mistakes for you:
Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is of course best known as a flat-faced comedian, but he also impressed in dramatic roles in ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘The Moon Man’. The author of these lines was probably not the only one who was sure that he should have been nominated for an Oscar for at least one of these two films – but none! And that despite the fact that he took home a Golden Globe each time and was nominated five more times for the second most important Hollywood award…

Marilyn Monroe

She is considered THE Hollywood diva of them all and has become a (tragic) pop culture icon. Before she died far too early at the age of 36, she once again demonstrated her acting skills, which many people denied her at the time, in the Western drama ‘Misfits’ (1961). Unfortunately, Monroe was no longer rewarded with an Oscar nomination.

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman not only made himself immortal with his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series. Yet the ‘Die Hard’ star has not been nominated for an Oscar once in his almost three-decade career – and unfortunately won’t be again: the Brit succumbed to cancer in 2016.

Bruce Willis

From one “Die Hard” star to another, it’s also highly unlikely that Bruce Willis will receive another Oscar nomination — after all, the 68-year-old had to give up his career due to a rare form of early-onset dementia. Willis would have more than deserved a nomination for at least the two Shyamalan hits “The Sixth Sense” (his 10-year-old co-star Haley Joel Osment was immediately nominated!) and “Unbreakable”.

Johannes Goedman

How many films by the Coen brothers (“Barton Fink,” “The Big Lebowski”) actually have to star John Goodman to get noticed by the Academy? Unfortunately, the fact that he was also in front of the camera directing heavyweights like Martin Scorsese didn’t help either…

Donald Sutherland

Donald Sutherland is a true Hollywood veteran: he first appeared in front of the camera in 1963 and the actor is still active 60 years later. Films he has worked on include classics like “Klute,” “When the Gondolas Wear Mourning” and “1900.” Despite this, he has not been nominated for an Oscar even once!

Ewan McGregor

Since his international breakthrough with Trainspotting, Ewan McGregor has become an extremely popular star. He played leading roles in prestigious films such as the musical Moulin Rouge!, Tim Burton’s Big Fish and the disaster drama The Impossible. However, the Academy has deliberately ignored him until now.

Richard Gere

“Chicago” was the big winner at the 2003 Oscars: the musical won a total of six awards, including Best Picture and Supporting Actress for Catherine Zeta-Jones. Richard Gere at least received a Golden Globe for his leading role, but he came home completely empty-handed from the Academy Awards – none of the 13 nominations went to the ‘Pretty Woman’ star. And in addition, the 74-year-old has never been on the list of Oscar candidates.

Mia Farrow

Mia Farrow has been nominated for the Golden Globe eight times, but she has only actually received the award once – in the now discontinued ‘Best Young Actress’ category. Despite ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and countless Woody Allen classics, the 79-year-old never had the chance to win an Oscar.

Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon is considered one of the most likable Hollywood stars, even though he likes to play questionable roles. Why he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for the prison drama ‘Murder In The First’ or Clint Eastwood’s ‘Mystic River’ (which each earned Sean Penn and Tim Robbins an Oscar) will likely remain the Academy’s secret.

Paul Dano

It’s probably only a matter of time before Paul Dano receives his first Oscar nomination. But considering he’s already had leading roles in films like “Little Miss Sunshine,” “There Will Be Blood” and most recently “The Fabelmans,” it’s been a long time coming!

Johannes Cusack

John Cusack has unfortunately slid completely into the segment of second-rate direct-to-DVD productions in recent years – and is therefore closer to the Golden Raspberry Award than to the Oscar. But ‘Being John Malkovich’ (1999) could at least have been nominated!

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant won a Golden Globe for “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” but even though the Globes created a separate category for it, comedies have traditionally struggled at the Oscars. This is probably why the ‘Love Actually’ star continues to be overlooked to this day.

Steve Martin

Steve Martin likely didn’t get a nomination for similar reasons, and the “Father of the Bride” star has now moved his career to series after all (“Only Murders In The Building”). In 2014, the Academy attempted to make up for its omission by awarding Martin, who had organized the ceremony several times, an honorary Oscar.

Demi Moore

Will ’90s superstar Demi Moore (“Ghost – Message from Sam”) ever get a really good comeback role? I wish she would. Maybe the overdue Oscar nomination will work out.

Of course, the list could go on forever: even big names like Kurt Russell, Dennis Quaid, John Turturro, Pierce Brosnan, Danny Glover, Cameron Diaz, Meg Ryan, Christina Ricci or Val Kilmer could never hope for the golden boy. . Will there possibly be a star from this list in the coming years? We will keep you informed!
