Giant sci-fi two-part film with a running time of 6 hours is released in one fell swoop: epic Netflix announcement from Zack Snyder

A meager 1.5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review, only 21 percent positive reviews and a lot of disappointment spreading through social media: No, “Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire” really wasn’t the hoped-for answer to “Star Wars” that many fans expected from director Zack Snyder. Has the era of reparations now begun?

On April 19, 2024 begins with “Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scar Maker“ the sequel to the science fiction film exclusively on Netflix – which will then continue the saga, inspired by cinematic milestones such as “The Seven Samurai” and “Star Wars”. After the opening film became a streaming hit on Netflix and was eagerly watched by film fans around the world, but the reviews and opinions of the audience were average to poor, many science fiction enthusiasts are probably looking forward to the long version of the first film, which already previously announced. There is now also news:

“Rebel Moon”: long versions appear in a double pack

As is known, the already released version of “Child of Fire” is the shortened version of Snyder’s actual “Rebel Moon” vision – which, in terms of hardness, not only drives with the handbrake on, but also omits a lot of content that will be included in the Extended Cut. A similar approach is now being taken with “The Scar Maker,” which will initially only be released in an initial, shorter version next month.

“They are each about an hour longer than the PG-13 versions. So it will be fun to see the six hours together,” says Snyder, who in a sense already makes a recommendation on how best to watch “Rebel Moon”: “You can of course take a break,” the director first says to. one more time before he finally does it emphasizes that it is “a more immersive experience” to watch the two films in the longer versions in one sitting. “I want people to see it that way. It’s very mature, with a high R rating.”

Will the maker of “300”, “Watchmen”, “Man Of Steel” and “Batman V Superman” get things back on track after the mixed reactions to the first version? In any case, we are enthusiastic – and we are not giving up hope yet. After all, Zack Snyder has already impressively demonstrated with several Director’s Cuts and Extended Cuts that he knows exactly which screws to tighten his films to make them (even) better.

Netflix already launched in the summer of 2024?

But first it remains to be seen whether ‘Rebel Moon’ will ultimately not only feature more sex and violence, as announced, but can also be a well-rounded affair. We may be able to convince ourselves of this in the near future. Opposite Snyder not only reveals, that the two extended versions will “probably release on the same day,” but also offers a launch date:

“We don’t have a date yet, but I think it will be summer,” Snyder said. Those who are curious can of course give ‘Child of Fire’ and, from April 19, ‘The Scar Maker’ a try in advance, but should keep in mind: this is not yet the full content of ‘Rebel Moon’. Whether the doppelgänger will actually launch a massive franchise – that’s the original plan, after all – will likely depend on how part 2 and the two feature-length versions perform on Netflix. By the way, there is already a trailer for the upcoming sequel:
