‘Yellowstone’ faces competition from the maker of ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ on Netflix: new Western series is gaining speed

Western fever has finally spread across the pond: Ever since the first three seasons of the hit series “Yellowstone” (see news photo), which has been celebrated in the US for years, became available on Netflix, everyone in this country is also talking about the series . Fans on Kevin Costner, the Dutton family, and where to watch seasons 4 and 5 and the spinoffs “1883,” “1923” and “Lawmen – Bass Reeves” (Answer: on Paramount+). The good news: the demand for westerns will continue to be met in the future, including on Netflix.

Naturally, the streaming service wants to participate in the current Western hype and has two Netflix productions from this genre. “The Abandons” is about the fate of several families in Oregon in the 1850s, who are about to be driven off their land by greedy landowners and who form unexpected alliances to offer (bloody) resistance. Gillian Anderson plays the matriarch Constance Van Ness, who doubled his fortune after the death of her husband with strength, charm and ruthlessness. Lena Headey stars as Fiona Nolan, a deeply religious woman of Irish descent and foster mother of four orphans.

The roles of the new additions have already been announced: Lucas Till will play Garret Van Ness, Nick Robinson will play Elias Teller, Aisling Franciosi will play Trisha Van Ness, Diana Silvers will play Dahlia Teller, Lamar Johnson will play Albert Mason and Natalie del Riego will play Lila Belle.

Netflix has ordered a 10-episode season of ‘The Abandons’. Kurt Sutter is behind the project as series creator and showrunner, and Otto Bathurst (“Peaky Blinders”) is directing the first episode. After production delays due to the double strike in Hollywood in 2023, “The Abandons” is now expected to hit the screens in spring 2024.

Netflix Western No. 2 “American Primeval”: Starts in 2024
