Ridley Scott is one of the last great film professionals. Big photos, big personalities and blockbusters, perfect for the big screen. The filmmaker has now reached the proud age of 86, but does not seem to want to retire just yet. This year the next hit awaits us in cinemas with the sequel to the cult film “Gladiator 2”. Here Paul Mescal follows in the gigantic footsteps of Russell Crowe and can prove himself in fights to the death.
But in 2023, the filmmaker has also delivered an old-school historical epic: In ‘Napoleon’ (eccentrically played by Joaquin Phoenix) a fast ride is made through the most important phases in the life of the legendary French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Anyone who has an Apple TV+ subscription can be happy: from today, March 1, 2024, ‘Napoleon’ can be viewed here at no extra cost.
It is not yet known when the Director’s Cut will be released, which once again offers a new viewing experience and has an impressive running time of 4.5 hours.
By the way, if you don’t have an Apple TV+ subscription, you can find the biopic as video-on-demand since January 9, 2024 on popular streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, where the film is available for purchase digitally:

“Napoleon” is an old-fashioned epic
In times of green screen filming and CGI overkill, a true craftsman like Ridley Scott once again offers classic cinema art that comes into its own on the big screen – even if he naturally resorts to digital trickery for his gigantic battle scenes. So it’s no wonder that his biopic ‘Napoleon’ was one of the most anticipated films of 2023 for many blockbuster fans. And especially visually, Scott once again manages to impress: the gigantic armies of extras deployed here and the bombastic, brutal fight scenes alone were certainly worth the cinema ticket.
This is also confirmed by our FILMSTARTS review, in which editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen gave no less than 3.5 out of 5 points and judged: “In the brutal fight scenes, Ridley Scott once again performs mercilessly – and there is also plenty of dry humor that exposes the complete absurdity of power!”
