Bellinzona was boiling on Thursday afternoon.

Demonstrators pointed out that Ticino was the only Swiss canton that refused to adjust wages according to the cost of living for the public sector, and spoke of a civil servants’ strike.

The strike and demonstration were organized by unions and the Pension Defense Movement and supported by left-wing parties. Ticino officials have not gone on strike since December 2012.
