42 members of the Army’s Special Forces Recruit School, based in Isone TI, have contracted norovirus. They have been isolated to prevent further spread and are receiving medical care, the defense group said Wednesday.
The affected recruits suffered from gastrointestinal complaints, said the defense group based in the Federal Ministry of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (DDBS).
Noroviruses cause gastrointestinal infections. The virus is transmitted relatively easily from person to person; there is no vaccination. Therefore, outbreaks have repeatedly occurred in community facilities such as barracks, homes and hospitals, the report said.
The disease usually lasts up to 72 hours and resolves on its own. Norovirus infections are most commonly observed in the winter months from November to March. (sda/lyn)
