With ‘Galaxy Quest’, Dean Parisot has delivered one of the absolute highlights of ’90s science fiction film. Although the space adventure initially failed at the box office, the film starring Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver slowly built up a significant fan base. Completely deserved, because ‘Galaxy Quest’ not only works as a parody of ‘Star Trek’, but also shows a lot of passion for the sci-fi genre.
News has been circulating for years that ‘Galaxy Quest’ will be continued or expanded into a franchise. It was last confirmed in mid-2023 that the project was finally moving again. However, it is not planned to be a theatrical sequel, but rather a TV series that will be produced by Paramount Television and then released directly on the streaming service Paramount+. But many months have passed since the last sign of life.

Will Simon Pegg Help With ‘Galaxy Quest’?
Now, however, Sam Rockwell has spoken out on the subject. In a video interview with in which Rockwell commented on his greatest roles, the Oscar-winning actor explained: “If there was a sequel to Galaxy Quest, we would all be there. We’ve talked about it, maybe in the form of a limited series, yes. Simon Pegg even said he would help.”
Now this needs to be classified a bit. Back in 2021, it was revealed that ‘Succession’ producer Georgia Pritchett and ‘Star Trek’ star Simon Pegg were working on a TV series based on ‘Galaxy Quest’. It is possible that Rockwell is referring to this series – which was never published. However, this is a different project than the one that Paramount Studios confirmed in 2023. It is unclear whether Pegg will work on the new, not yet canceled series. Precisely because Rockwell does not make it clear how long ago the conversations with him were.
It could also be that the currently planned ‘Galaxy Quest’ series will be based on ideas from Simon Pegg and Georgia Prtichett. Mark Johnson, the film’s producer, will also work here as a production assistant. So it will be interesting to see how the whole topic surrounding the ‘Galaxy Quest’ series, which could also possibly be a spin-off, will develop. It remains to be seen if Sam Rockwell has once again started rumors that actually no longer exist.
