Charlie Hunnam is best known as Jax Teller from ‘Sons Of Anarchy’. But even after the final season of the critically acclaimed motorcycle series, which came out ten years ago, the British actor managed to keep his career going. In addition to “The Gentlemen,” “The Lost City of Z” and “Rebel Moon,” Hunnam has landed the lead role in the neo-noir comedy “Last Looks.”
Directed by Tim Kirkby (“Action Point”), Hunnam plays an ex-cop investigating a complicated murder case – and Mel Gibson (“Lethal Weapon”) is the prime suspect. Haven’t seen “Last Looks,” which was released straight to DVD and Blu-ray in this country two years ago? Then you can catch up now on Amazon Prime Video.

That’s what ‘Last Looks’ is about
Waldo (Charlie Hunnam) is a former Los Angeles Police Department detective who has chosen a simple and lonely life deep in the woods. Then his ex-girlfriend and former colleague Lorena (Morena Baccarin) approaches him with a request: he must investigate the murder of the wife of TV superstar Alastair Pinch (Mel Gibson). With a heavy heart, Waldo leaves his secluded life and returns to the rough streets of the big city.
There he encounters all kinds of disgusting and strange things that he actually wanted to leave behind. Within a very short time he has to deal with an unpredictable cop (Clancy Brown), the brutal gangster Don Q (Jacob Scipio) and Jayne (Lucy Fry), a kindergarten teacher who reacts very physically to Waldo. But that’s nothing compared to the drunken Pinch, who acts like a crazy person. But also insane enough to kill his wife?
Strong cast, but also a successful film?
In the official FILMSTARTS review, “Last Look” received only 2 out of 5 possible stars. In his conclusion, our author Lutz Granert writes: “The thriller comedy ‘Last Looks’ offers a true mix of strange characters, but lacks the necessary humor and a compelling story.”

On power
Screenwriter Howard Gould, who adapted his own novel here, fails to keep the story alive through sharp dialogue and successful humor. Fans of Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson can still take a look, Because unlike the rest of the film, the two stars here seem really refreshing and clearly have fun in their roles.
