Gabriella Palacios is Venezuelan, but has been living in Panama for several years. She studied gastronomy, and is currently studying psychology. But she is also in love with macrame and crocheting.
Her passion for this art led her to do it businesswith a beautiful design.
Since 2015, I have had an interest in making pieces tat personally, she started making pieces for herself and her friends, she tells Panama América.
“After a lot of assembly and disassembly, I managed to make them as I expected. I dedicated myself until 2020 to sales only tat“, says the 30-year-old designer.
In 2021, after the pandemic, he became a hobby to work, adding the macrame technique, “I left everything I was doing at the time to devote myself exclusively to my work.” You can see their work at GP Diseños Tejidos Macramé (@disenosbygp)
“I was very interested in the versatility and the possibilities of creating a piece. Each order was a challenge, and seeing that it was completed as I expected was my satisfaction,” he comments with emotion.
At first he was afraid, because he didn’t know the Panamanian market, he didn’t know if it would be accepted.
“When I started selling, many people started coming to me and when they received the product they wrote me very nice things and that was the greatest pleasure for me to continue creating,” he says.
Challenges and more
It’s not an easy job, “from the time you spend creating the pieces to choosing the materials, not even thinking about taking the piece apart, it’s better to start a new one.”
However, he said the hardest thing that “was hard for me was knowing how much thread to use, because you can run out of thread halfway through and damage the whole job and it would be starting over.”
“It’s a process that took me many pieces of preparation to calculate the exact amount of thread so that there is no waste or shortage,” he admits.
