One of Netflix’s biggest action hits: Part 2 has been filming for over a year – when does it finally start?

In the comedy adaptation “The Old Guard,” Oscar winner Charlize Theron (“Monster”) led a clandestine mercenary force as the battle-hardened Andromache of Scythia, better known as Andy. With fists flying, the action spectacle fought its way into the Netflix top ten of all time and was one of the streaming service’s most successful blockbusters in 2020. “The Old Guard” has now fallen out of the top ten, but the sequel may be coming back again.

But when? That is the big question, because “The old guard 2“ was announced in July 2021 and has been in filming for over a year. The action sequel has been in post-production since then, but a start date really needs to be announced. Booker actor Matthias Schoenaerts now spoke about why it’s taking so long and what the current status of ‘The Old Guard 2’ is – Editor Christina Radish.

“The Old Guard 2”: This is the status

According to him, the delay in the launch of “The Old Guard 2” has something to do with changes at management level at Netflix, according to Schoenaerts: “We shot the film about a year and a half ago and I think they are now in the final stages of post-production. From what I understand, there has been a change at the upper echelons of Netflix. I think there is a different CEO and that leads to rethinking releases, when and how, and that is none of my business.”

He does not know when Netflix plans to launch, but the actor emphasized again that the work is almost finished. “It will become clear one day,” Schoenaerts concludes.

Charlize Theron in the leading role again

The year 2024 is still young, so we can easily imagine “The Old Guard 2” launching this year. In 2022, Victoria Mahoney, who succeeded Gina Prince-Bythewood in the director’s chair, made the action sequel starring Charlize Theron. Uma Thurman (“Kill Bill”) and Henry Golding (“Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins”) were well-known newcomers to the camera.

In ‘The Old Guard,’ which you can watch now on Netflix, Andy and her team of immortal warriors, including Booker (Schoenaerts), unexpectedly encounter another immortal: American soldier Nile (KiKi Layne) is shocked to discover that she can. t dies – and is taken into Andy’s care. As Nile tries to navigate the new situation, the team, which fights for good in secret missions around the world, is lured into a trap by a would-be confidant…
