New on Amazon Prime Video: a 180-minute epic starring Brad Pitt, which was especially important to “Star Wars” fans at the time!

Do you have a soft spot for cheap romance? An epic playing time doesn’t scare you either? And you can’t get enough of Brad Pitt (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”)? Then from today you get value for your money with Amazon Prime Video! Because now there is the 180-minute love film “Appointment with Joe BlackAvailable to all Prime customers at no additional cost.

Although the work, directed by Martin Brest (“Beverly Hills Cop”), actually has nothing to do with “Star Wars,” countless “Star Wars” fans flocked to the film at the time. This was for the following reason: “Rendezvous with Joe Black” was one of the few films from 1998 that had the first trailer for “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” was shown. Many spectators bought a ticket just to watch the preview and then leave the hall (you can read more about this in an article on the website CNET read).

In fact, this backstory is probably more interesting overall than the film itself. Even though “Rendezvous with Joe Black” isn’t a failure (in the official FILMSTARTS review it gave the film a solid 3 out of 5 possible stars), the epic romance suffers from its excessive length and, for the most part, lack of chemistry between Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani.

On power

That’s what “Rendezvous with Joe Black” is about

Susan Parrish (Claire Forlani) flirts with an attractive man (Brad Pitt) in a small cafe. After the two say goodbye, neither knows the other’s name. Immediately after the meeting, the strange man dies in a traffic accident, but Susan doesn’t notice anything. Her father William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins), a successful and popular businessman, will celebrate his 65th birthday in a few days. One evening he is visited by the man Susan was flirting with – and he introduces himself to him as Death.

He then offers William a deal: he must introduce him to the human world in exchange for letting him live longer. William, baptized Joe Black, presents the death of his family and Susan is more than surprised to see the man from the small cafe eating together again. She has fallen head over heels in love with him, but he seems to have completely changed. However, the feelings soon pass…
