After the ‘John Wick’ franchise recently saw a rather mixed expansion in terms of series with ‘The Continental’, we can now expect more on the big screen with ‘Ballerina’. This is a spin-off that will star “James Bond: No Time to Die” star Ana de Armas.
The action film was actually supposed to be released in cinemas in Germany on June 6, 2024 (in the United States on June 7, 2024), but as now announced, “Ballerina” will only be released in theaters a whole year (!) later. The US launch is now scheduled for June 6, 2025. The German date has not yet been confirmed, but one can assume that “Ballerina” will hit cinemas in this country from June 5, 2025.
The action is the reason for the postponement
The reason for the delay likely has nothing to do with the quality of the film directed by Len Wiseman (“Underworld”). Instead, the media appreciates this report that another year is planned for filming additional action scenes. These will be made under the supervision of ‘John Wick’ mastermind Chad Stahelski, who now has full control of the ‘John Wick’ franchise and will only release carefully selected entries into the universe going forward. This is also a response to the critical voices about ‘The Continental’.
“Ballerina” sits between “John Wick 3” and “John Wick 4”. Not only will we find out what happened between chapters, but we can also look forward to seeing Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Ian McShane as Winston, and the late Lance Reddick. Ana de Armas embodies a young woman who trains to become an assassin to take revenge on her family’s killers.
