The first season of “Wednesday” currently holds the title as the Netflix streaming service’s most successful English-language format and made Jenna Ortega (“Scream VI”) a megastar in the role of the dryly funny college student as a descendant of the “Addams Family.” in the fall of 2022. In addition to classic coming-of-age elements, the Tim Burton-directed series (“Beetlejuice”) also contains a good dose of action and horror. While Netflix programmed the series at its own discretion for viewers aged 12 and older, the FSK has now subsequently assigned a stricter rating.
How writes that each “Wednesday” episode will be produced on behalf of Warner Bros. was checked again by the FSK – with surprising results. Because not every episode of the series has received the Netflix recommended age rating of 12 years. Three of the eight episodes of the first season of the horror hit were only released by FSK for children aged 16 and over. These slightly more ‘violent’ representatives include episode 1 ‘Wednesday’s Child Bears Great Suffering’, episode 4 ‘With Sorrow and Trank’ and episode 6 ‘Suffering Pro Quo’.
According to the A release for ages 16 and over consists of the following criteria: “Films that tend to glorify violence, violate a partnership-based gender role relationship, discriminate against individual groups, or reduce sexuality to a pure instrument for instinctual gratification will not be released.”
“Wednesday” soon available on DVD and Blu-ray?
The fact that the FSK has now carried out another check could indicate that “Wednesday” will soon be available for purchase in Germany on DVD and Blu-ray and therefore also those of us who do not have a Netflix subscription will be able to enjoy the successful series can enjoy. The series will be available in home theaters in the US and UK from March 25 and 26, 2024 respectively. There is currently no official announcement about this in Germany. However, the great international success of the series on Netflix also makes a home cinema release likely in this country.
The second season of “Wednesday” will also go into production in Ireland from April. However, we should not expect the new consequences before 2025. Here we can also look forward to the FSK rating – because as Jenna Ortega recently revealed, the second season will be much more action and horror…
