After the new edition “Ghostbusters” from 2016 was not well received not only by the public but also by international critics, it was decided five years later to make a major course correction. “Ghostbusters: Legacy” was tasked with delighting fans of the original Ghost Hunter adventures with a nostalgic sensibility, while introducing new heroes and heroines. And the plan worked!
‘Ghostbusters: Legacy’ received a lot of recognition (for example, in the official FILMSTARTS review it received an extremely strong 4 out of 5 possible stars) and also performed solidly at the box office despite the corona pandemic. With “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”, a direct sequel will now be released in cinemas on March 21, 2024, again starring Paul Rudd (“Avengers: Endgame”), Mckenna Grace (“Young Sheldon”) and Co.

There’s just one catch: If you’ve decided to watch “Ghostbusters: Legacy” with your Netflix subscription in preparation for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” you need to hurry. Jason Reitman’s fantasy adventure is only available on the streaming service with the big red N until February 26. So if you want to watch the movie on Netflix, you’ll have to do so in the next few days!
This is what “Ghostbusters: Legacy” is all about
Callie (Carrie Coon) is struggling with financial problems and therefore moves with her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) to her deceased father’s dilapidated building in a small provincial town in Oklahoma. Trevor tries to connect with the country’s teens as quickly as possible, while 12-year-old Phoebe searches through her grandfather’s ancient remains – and makes the exciting discovery of strange paraphernalia.
Her teacher, Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd), thinks these indicate that her grandfather was a member of the legendary, but now almost forgotten, “Ghostbusters.” As Trevor and Phoebe gradually begin trying out the technology with some new classmates, a mystical threat brews beneath the sleepy town…
