Lightweight, compact, waterproof, a strong battery and great image quality in 4K: The DJI Osmo promotion 3 offers everything a good action camera should have. This makes it an interesting and significantly cheaper alternative to the top dog GoPro.
The GoPro Hero12* currently costs around 400 euros on Amazon. The DJI Osmo Action 3 costs 359 euros in the standard combo. You currently get a whopping 110 euro discount on the recommended retail price at Amazon and pay only 249 euros. The GoPro alternative has never been cheaper.
DJI Osmo Action 3: The AI cuts your videos
The DJI Osmo Action 3 offers an affordable price an excellent total package. Video recording is possible in 4K at 120 Hz. 240 Hz is available for slow motion, but ‘only’ in Full HD. Photos are taken with 12 megapixels. These are strong values, but they can’t keep up with the more expensive GoPro.

The Action 3’s battery lasts depending on use between 70 minutes and two hours. Unfortunately, the camera gets hot quickly at high settings, but DJI has come up with a nice trick: the camera’s software automatically calculates when the temperature rises to a critical level and displays the corresponding remaining recording time.
If necessary, you can simply go to the diving station with the camera and cool down. The Action 3 is to a depth of 16 meters waterproof and in combination with the good video quality in low light, perfect for underwater recordings.
The alternative to Action 3 comes from Hamburg
A cheap alternative to the DJO Osmo Action 3 is the Rollei Action Cam One for 149 euros on Amazon.
The Action One from the traditional German company Rollei in Hamburg impresses with its simplicity and is therefore mainly aimed at beginners. For just under 150 euros it offers very good image quality with 4K at 60 Hz (up to 240 Hz in slow motion at Full HD) and, above all, excellent image stabilization via gyroscope as well as a lot of accessories. You have to compromise on the mediocre battery life of 45 to 100 minutes.
